Do I Need W-2 Forms?

Unless you are self employed or receive more than 25% of your total income from commission income, you will always need to provide your W-2 forms. The rule of thumb is that the most recent 2-years are required to show a stable income pattern. If you are newly graduating from college or technical school, you can provide your related studies degree to verify your stability in a given field of work. However, if you work on a base pluss commision position, you would need to provide your W-2 and full tax returns to document whether or not you are responsible for expenses that would be deducted from your commission income. The same is applicable to self-employed borrowers regarding expenses.
